Synopsis
In Picture of Light, filmmaker Peter Mettler travels to Churchill, Manitoba, in search of the aurora borealis, one of nature’s most elusive and mesmerizing wonders. As he and his crew face extreme winter conditions and wait for the northern lights to appear, the journey becomes more than a technical challenge. Along the way, the film opens onto the lives, stories and perspectives of people living in this remote northern region, while reflecting on the tension between nature and technology, science and myth. Both visually striking and deeply meditative, Picture of Light is a remarkable exploration of wonder, perception and the limits of the image.
