Language of the event

English, French

The Consulate General of Switzerland in Vancouver is pleased to support the presentation of the documentary Sophie Lavaud – Le dernier sommet, directed by François Damilano, in the presence of Franco-Swiss-Canadian mountaineer Sophie Lavaud.

The film will be presented in French with English subtitles and followed by a bilingual Q&A with Sophie Lavaud.

Known as “Lady 8000,” Sophie Lavaud is the first French alpinist, all genders combined, to have climbed all fourteen Himalayan peaks over 8,000 metres. The documentary follows her final ascent, Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, and offers an intimate look at the determination, humility and resilience required in high-altitude mountaineering.

Sophie Lavaud will be in Vancouver during a brief stop before travelling to the Yukon, where she will take part in the BASELINE – Glacier Biodiversity Challenge, a citizen science and participatory research project on Mount Logan.

This event is co-presented by Visions Ouest Productions, Alliance Française Vancouver, the Consulate General of France in Vancouver, and the Consulate General of Switzerland in Vancouver, with the collaboration of the Institut français du Canada, La Fabrique Saint-George, and Le Marché Saint-George.
