The Consulate General of Switzerland in Vancouver, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), Music, Movement, Mood and Parkinson’s project team, BC Brain Wellness Program at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, Ballet BC, and Pacific Coastal Computing Association invite you to an immersive event series: Music, Movement, Mood and Parkinson’s.
Explore how rhythm, sound, music and motion can support people with Parkinson's in navigating their journey with strength, creativity and resilience, and engage with this topic firsthand. We welcome people with Parkinson’s and other conditions, their families, practitioners, and researchers to join our experiential event series.
Music, Movement, Mood and Parkinson’s : Guest Talk / Webinar
Professor Dawn Rose, a music psychologist, senior research professor, and musician based at HSLU will present the major international project, Music, Mood, and Movement in Parkinson's, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and Parkinson Schweiz. Prof. Rose will share the processes involved in co-developing a new group-based music-and-movement intervention for and with people with Parkinson’s, and the experience organizing award-winning Playlist for Parkinson’s concerts.
Who is this session for: Rehabilitation practitioners, neurology and neurorehabilitation specialists, neuroscience, psychology, sports science, and kinematics researchers, students, community members with interest in the subject.

Songlines for Parkinson’s: Community Workshop
During this workshop, you will develop your beat finding abilities and build an “internal jukebox” of musical cues, explore different rhythms from around the world to see how they influence the way your body moves. You will also learn how therapeutic exercises can be naturally woven into dance, including a Haka designed for people with Parkinson’s (featuring breathing and facial exercises, vocal techniques, and power poses).
Who is this session for: People living with Parkinson’s or other conditions, their caregivers and family members, health practitioners, and researchers in neuroscience and neurorehabilitation.
