Which documents should I submit with a visa application?
If your employer has applied for your work permit in Switzerland and it has been granted, you must contact the Swiss representation abroad responsible for your province in order to receive the entry visa on your passport.
Please see our Authorized Visa page to learn which documentation is required and which office to contact.
The following documents are in general required when applying for an entry visa for work in Switzerland:
- authorisation issued by the cantonal authority (original or copy)
- application for a long stay visa (visa D)
- valid passport (original)
- a recent photograph
- visa fees
If your stay in Switzerland does not exceed 90 days, please contact the Swiss representation.
The cantonal migration authority responsible for your place of residence in Switzerland will approve your visa authorization. The approval process can vary. To allow for sufficient processing time, please submit your file by mail at least three months before your planned entry date into Switzerland.
Authorization for a Swiss representation to issue a national visa for a stay of more than 90 days (work, study, family reunion): 8 to 15 weeks
Once authorized by the cantonal authority (including work permits applied for by employers in Switzerland): One to three business days
