111 Echoes From Halifax to Open the 2026 Atlantic International Film Festival 2026

The feature film 111 Echoes From Halifax will open the 2026 Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) with its world premiere on 16 September in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Directed by Mauro Mueller and produced in Nova Scotia by Ann Bernier, this Switzerland-Canada co-production is inspired by the story of Swissair Flight 111, which crashed off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1998. Through the perspectives of those affected, the film explores themes of grief, resilience and the human connections that emerged in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Opening the festival is an important recognition of the strengh of Swiss-Canadian collaboration in filmmaking and of the many artists and professionals whose work brought this project to life.
